Overview

As a Sr. System Engineer within IVC’s Information Technology team, this individual plays a critical role working closely with the business and across the Information Technology organization defining, delivering and supporting IT technical solutions and supporting roadmaps.  In summary this position:  Is responsible for the overall systems infrastructure including engineering, implementation and integration, and technical services and support.  Defines specifications for operating systems applications and modifies/maintains existing applications.  Designs, installs, maintains, and administers infrastructure including hardware, software, and various configurations.  Designs and deploys systems based on business/user requirements.

 

Salary Range : $100K-$130K/year

 

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance on existing operating systems and hardware.
  • Evaluates, engineers, tests, recommends, and implements secure infrastructures.
  • Acts as a resource for system escalation issues.
  • Documents platforms and processes for ongoing operations.
  • Gathers business requirements for system design.
  • Researches and develops future technologies.
  • Monitors overall performance to proactively identify potential issues and tune appropriately. Investigates and resolves system problems and system performance.
  • Schedules and coordinates installation and maintenance of software/hardware on the network and ensures compatibility of all communications and computer hardware/software.
  • Performs root cause analysis on failed components and implements corrective measures.
  • Provides ongoing information to leadership, customers, and peers regarding enhancements, innovations and solutions.
  • Responsible for following company specific systems engineering standards.
  • Periodic inspections of assigned data centers to ensure policies are being upheld.
  • Responsible for floor space allocations and related rack and rack peripheral infrastructure build out to accommodate hardware installations and moves.
  • Responsible for generating and communicating Data Center metrics.
  • Responsible for management of data center operations–owned inventory.
  • Communicates provisions of data center policies and standards to the corporation and facilitates customer understanding of processes and procedures.
  • Plans and coordinates with various cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure present and future capacity/scalability.
  • Designs and implements global infrastructures.
  • Helps set the direction of the systems engineer group.
  • Mentors/coaches less experienced system engineers.
  • Drives projects that are cross-functional and integrates various systems/platforms.
  • Regularly assists in orienting, training, assigning, and checking the work of lower level systems engineers.
  • Prioritizes work as it relates to the achievement of IVC's short and long- term business goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for complex testing and analysis of all elements of the computer systems.
  • Provides guidance and direction to junior level system engineers.
  • Regularly assists in orienting, training, assigning and checking the work of lower level engineers.
  • Establishes system priorities as they relate to IVC's achievement of short and long-term business goals and objectives.
  • Analyzes and provides innovative solutions to system engineering and design projects.
  • Represents the organization in front of critical audiences such as clients/customers/vendors/executives
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education:  Undergraduate degree and 8+ years relevant experience or Graduate degree and 6+ years relevant experience.

 

 

Skills & Knowledge:  Knowledge of system development methodology, project management, analytical/problem solving skills and relevant development and technology skills. 

  • In-depth disciplinary knowledge; leverages business acumen and subject matter expertise.
  • Provides deep subject matter expertise, advice and program delivery.
  • Contributes to the development of new techniques and plans within area of expertise.
  • In-depth understanding of the company goals, customer requirements and knowledge of competitor practices.

  • Thorough understanding and management of internal customer business needs and expectations.
  • Manages projects and program execution.
  • Advanced proficiency in server administration (Windows, Linux, etc.).
  • Advanced proficiency in common Hypervisor technologies (VMWare, etc.)
  • Advanced proficiency in server storage and SAN’s.
  • Advanced proficiency in Citrix / VDI environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in cloud based XaaS technologies (e.g. Azure, Exchange Office365, etc.) including engineering and implementing public and hybrid solutions that take into account: 
  • Advanced knowledge and adaptation of emerging technologies and frameworks to reduce costs, effort and maintenance.
  • Advanced proficiency in the establishing and implementing general IT control processes such as access, backup & recovery and DR (Zerto/DRaaS)
