Overview

Position Overview 

A Chemist II will perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of raw materials, finished products, and stability samples for nutritional supplements. The chemist must be familiar with and knowledgeable of cGMPs, cGLPs, SOPs, along with working in an FDA controlled environment. May assist with method development, with support for other departments for special projects as needed, training of new hires, and other laboratory duties assigned by Quality Management.   

 

Responsibilities

 

Specific Responsibilities  

  • Performs chemical testing of incoming raw materials, finished product, and stability samples utilizing instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, and ICP/ICPMS. 
  • Follow cGMPs, cGLPs, Compendia, and SOPs.  
  • Perform general lab duties as assigned, for example: replenish test reagents, clean lab, wash glassware.  
  • Perform routine maintenance checks/calibration verifications of equipment. 
  • Support other departments for special projects as requested.  
  • Gather, interpret, and review analytical data. 
  • Clean assigned areas of the lab and maintain an audit ready status.  
  • Able to train others on specific instruments or techniques proficient in. 
  • Assist others with troubleshooting. 
  • Conduct investigations of any out of specification results. 
  • Assists in completing SOP updates. 

 

General Responsibilities 

  • Poses no direct threat to the health or safety of himself/herself, of others, or to property. Defined as a significant risk of substantial harm that cannot be eliminated or reduced to an acceptable level by reasonable accommodation.    
  • Requires regular attendance to perform essential element as contained herein between the assigned start and end times for work and must be flexible to assist with workloads without notice of planned/unplanned absences. 
  • Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.    
  • Models and supports organizations goals and values. 

Qualifications

The Candidate 

Education, Experience, and Licenses: 

  • 1-3 years’ experience in a cGMP environment, with a proven track record.  
  • BA or BS Degree in Chemistry or related science.  

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Skilled at analyzing data and summarizing results.  
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.  
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions with a high level of accuracy.  
  • Must be able to write clear understandable documentation.  
  • Strong organizational skills to be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.  
  • Ability to provide directions to other Chemists.  
  • Must be able to demonstrate working knowledge of general wet chemistry procedures. 
  • Must have knowledge of how to work safely with and around chemicals and their potential hazards. 
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. 
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs. 
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: lab coat, safety glasses, and gloves. 
  • Respirator required for the removal of waste from the laboratory.
